A very rare bird, this Douglas Y1C-21 Dolphin, Air Corps serial 32-279, was the first of eight ordered in 1932 and was assigned to Albrook. These amphibians were exceptionally versatile in the conditions encountered in Panama. The rationale for the so-called "Field Numbers" assigned to aircraft during this period, such as "22" shown here, have not been fully deciphered.  (photo via Ev Cassagneres)
