GENERAL

The American Aviation Historical Society was founded in 1956 as a non-profit ( 501.3.c. ) educational organization. The primary objective of the organization is the preservation and dissemination of the rich heritage of American aviation. The Society maintains an extensive collection of books, documents and photographs that are available to researchers and aviation enthusiasts on a wide variety of American aviation history. The AAHS publishes quarterly an outstanding AAHS Journal and informative AAHS FlightLine that provides information into interesting and often little known facts associated with American aviation. The Society serves as a catalyst by providing a forum for communication among members having a common interest in specific topics.

More than 65 years of Aviation Documentation – The AAHS is recognized by the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum as a premiere aviation historical activity. During our 65 plus years of documenting significant events in the industry, coverage has included Air Force, Naval, Marine aircraft and their deployment in WWI, WWII, the Korean and Vietnamese conflicts as well as the exciting emergence of civil aviation from the Wright Brothers on. The evolution of commercial aviation companies and the aircraft they operated is well represented in both Journal articles and the photo library.
Members get “behind the scenes” design and development revelations concerning the American aircraft industry. Learn about the triumphs and boondoggles associated with the development and testing of military and civilian aircraft. For the aviation historian, gain access to over 1,000,000 periodicals, photos and rare books in the Society’s collection. For the collector, connect with others that share your interest. Through the Wants and Disposals service you can exchange contacts and locate those critical items needed to round out your collection.

Membership is open to anyone, anywhere having an interest in aviation and its history.

Don't wish to join but would like to support the Society's activities? Consider making a tax deductible donation. Your support and contributions are appreciated and help further the goals of the Society.
